Gayle Kinney stands a pillar of love and devotion to her two remarkable, beautiful, warrior children, Johnny and Madelin. She also holds the role of dedicated spouse, standing side by side with her husband John. Gayle has spent the past few years navigating her life in survival mode, a journey that persists as she grapples with the profound loss of her first-born child Johnny. Simultaneously, she is trying to be the best possible mother to Madelin, courageously facing the challenges that grief inevitably brings. Yet, amidst the challenges, she is determined to push herself forward along the path of grief, using it as both a stepping stone and a source of fuel to safeguard the cherished memory and enduring legacy of Johnny.

Gayle finds joy in the company of her family and friends. Whether it be a casual movie night at home, engaging in games, or transforming the car into a concert venue, she relishes in the time spent together. As a devoted mother, Gayle stands as her daughter’s biggest supporter, consistently attending and cheering for Madelin at all her sporting events and theater productions. Gayle takes pride in watching Madelin participate in all things that bring her happiness. Gayle is also known as the “Uber Driver” as she frequently drives all the kids to and from practices and events. She loves the packed car and the time spent with Madelin and her friends getting the latest “tea” and stories about what is going on in their lives.

Gayle’s unwavering devotion extends beyond the present, reaching back to the challenging times when Johnny faced a relentless two-plus-year battle with cancer. Throughout their journey, she stood as Johnny’s biggest fan, a faithful, loyal and devoted presence always by his side. Whether holding his hand or quite literally holding him up, Gayle always provided comfort and strength to Johnny. In the midst of the pain and difficulty, she also displayed remarkable selflessness. Recognizing Johnny as a precious gift, she generously shared his presence with family and friends. Despite the fear and apprehension, especially as his battle drew to a close and knowing that his days were few, Gayle allowed Johnny the freedom to go out to friends’ houses and spend memorable times with them. Her willingness to let him go, even when it was personally terrifying, exemplifies the depth of her love and commitment.

Gayle’s character shines through as a mother who prioritizes the happiness of her children above all else. Her selfless and loving nature is evident in her relentless pursuit to ensure Johnny was always happy, regardless of the toll it took on herself. The same pursuit guides her parenting for Madelin, where she strives to ensure her daughter’s joy and provides unwavering support as they navigate the complexities of grief together. In the face of life’s challenges, Gayle remains a beacon of love, resilience, and extraordinary maternal strength.

In addition to being the heart and soul of her family, Gayle is a respected Practice Assistant at Ogletree Deakins Law Office in Morristown, NJ. Within the confines of her professional realm, she stands out as a dedicated and efficient worker, providing invaluable support to four highly engaged attorneys. Beyond her legal duties, Gayle injects a dose of humor into the workplace, lifting the spirits of her colleagues with her humorous commentary. She also keeps the office atmosphere chuckling by strategically placing hidden pictures of herself around the office.

Motivated by her own experiences, Gayle, alongside her husband John, started the Johnny Kinney Memorial Foundation, Inc. with the intent of supporting other families who have been affected by pediatric cancer. Gayle’s strength, compassion, and a tenacious spirit to keep going is an inspiration to those fortunate enough to cross her path. Through the Johnny Kinney Memorial Foundation, she is determined to ensure that Johnny’s memory and legacy remain etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know and love him, as well as those who were touched by his journey.
